Clean Hands

image from:Imagine symbols

Our group has started cooking and we have some hygiene issues that need to be sorted out fairly quickly... ! So I will be looking at clean hands this week and using some of these resources:
Any other suggestions suitable for young adults with a learning disability are very welcome.

A blog entry from Teaching Learners with multiple needs:
Germs and Flu Prevention includes a good explanation of a washing hands activity-Green Glitter Germs Lesson Plan

A hygiene bingo - and other resources Boardmaker 5 owners only !

A social story about teaching the importance of clean hands from polixo (Teaching Children with Autism)

The hand washing challenge is an site for children from the US. This may/may not be suitable as it is definitely aimed at children -otherwise it would be great

An Australian hand washing video, again aimed at children but I would use this with my adult students.

A handango activity PDF to download from the scrub club

An interactive online game about how flu spreads and the role of clean hands

To print out :A hand washing word search and a hand washing word scrabble from glogerm.com (entry level)

Too much work !

I got to Friday luch time, sat down at my desk and felt bad. My colleague tried to rally me with the thought of the weekend but all I could think of was that my job was an unremitting slog, working in the day, preparing in the evening and weekends. I was not sure I could keep this up. I had been working solidly for the last 2 weeks. I knew it was time to switch off!
So this weekend I haven't prepared any work. (ok I thought about work a bit.. as I did some housework... but other than that and of course this blog entry.. nothing!

I found the series of information sheets from The college and university support network useful
Including:

Tips for managing your time and workload

Work-life Balance - what is it and how do I achieve it?

Your top tips for time management

Assertiveness: your right to say no

How working extra hours can impact you

Creative visualisation

They also have
an online support team available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They are there for straightforward questions you need an answer to, or to help you with bigger issue that are troubling you where you may need some extra support.

The Specials

A new online docusoap about the lives of young people with a learning disability has recently been launched. The first 10 minute episode can be viewed on line at The Specials. I have had a little trouble with a slow broadband connection but I've watched it through frequent buffering. It could be really useful when talking about relationships and developing leisure activities. Well worth a look. The Guardian has a preview clip and a review 'Friends meets Skins' with a difference
